Dallas Cowboys' Williams meets with coaches
Posted By D.A. Louis  May 15, 2008
Dallas News Reports:
Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams has become a lightning rod recently, with his
comments on how he fits into coach Wade Phillips' defense, followed by linebacker Greg
Ellis' thoughts, fueling speculation that the Pro Bowler had fallen out of favor at Valley
Ranch.

The situation prompted defensive coordinator Brian Stewart and safeties coach Brett
Maxie to sit down privately with Williams. Wednesday, at the Cowboys' annual golf outing,
Stewart said he was satisfied with the meeting's results.

Stewart said he doesn't consider confidence an issue, even after Williams said on the
Michael Irvin Show "sometimes you just hope they don't throw the ball your way."

but his baby mama drama may just be starting.

emotional and financial support for their baby girl, while another pregnant woman stood by, listening to talk
of how she's set to deliver a Briggs baby.
Briggs, 27, wasn't in court. He is living in Arizona with yet another woman who recently gave birth to
another daughter of Briggs, those involved in the case alleged.
Specter Calls Patriots’ Spying Wider Than Stated
Posted by D.A. Louis  May 15, 2008
New York Times Reports:
After meeting with a former New England Patriots employee who helped the team spy on opponents,
Senator Arlen Specter on Wednesday described the team’s illicit videotaping tactics as more systematic
and deliberate than what the N.F.L. has acknowledged publicly.
Mr. Specter, a Republican from Pennsylvania, said the former employee, Matt Walsh, described elaborate
measures by the Patriots to conceal their filming of opponents’ signals. Mr. Walsh also explained how the
Patriots’ coaching staff gleaned strategic information from members of the team’s video crew who had
watched the St. Louis Rams’ walk-through practice before the 2002 Super Bowl.

He also identified more games and opponents that were filmed by the Patriots and detailed the advantages
the team gained in later games.
Stewart, Titans want long deal
Posted By D.A. Louis  May 15, 2008
Tennessean Reports:
Titans offensive tackle David Stewart has signed a one-year deal with the team, but both sides remain
hopeful of reaching a long-term deal at some point.

Stewart's contract is worth $2.017 million for 2008. The Titans made Stewart a tender offer back in
February. He just signed it on Tuesday. Stewart previously signed a waiver with the team that allowed him
to take part in the offseason program.

Agent Bus Cook said Wednesday he's had conversations with the Titans about a long-term contract for
Stewart. Last month, the Titans signed left tackle Michael Roos to
a 6-year, $43 million contract extension.
Agent: Suggs, team reach compromise on franchise tag
Posted by D.A. Louis   May 14,2008
Baltimoresun.com Reports:
The Ravens and Terrell Suggs avoided a grievance by essentially creating a new position, Suggs' agent
confirmed last night.

The sides reached an agreement on a one-year franchise tag tender worth close to $8.5 million, which will
pay him as a hybrid defensive end-linebacker.

It is believed that the NFL Players Association and the NFL management council are finalizing details to
sign off on the compromise.
Lewis says Bengals installing new 'D'
Posted by D.A. Louis May 14, 2008
Cincinnati.com Reports:
Amid a relatively innocuous statement coming off the field Tuesday, following the team's first offseason
practice, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said the team is installing a new defense.

He offered no details, but the confirmation of a new defensive scheme - following the firing of Lewis'
second defensive coordinator and the hiring of his third, Mike Zimmer - comes on the heels of Lewis saying
the team will stay with a four-lineman base.

"It's a good day, a good start," Lewis said after the 80-minute practice in shorts, practice jerseys and
helmets. "Our goal is to come out ... we're installing a new defense. We have an opportunity for some guys
who didn't play as much on offense for us to get a good head start."
Titans' White played 2007 with torn meniscus
Posted by D.A. Louis May 14, 2008
Nashville's Daily News Reports:
LenDale White says his surgically repaired left knee feels fine as he took part in organized team activities
on Tuesday after revealing he played all of 2007 with a torn meniscus. White, who had arthroscopic
surgery in January, had been limited to individual work in last week’s open workout. White suffered the
injury in preseason last August.

“This happened last year in preseason. I tore my meniscus,” White said. “I played on it all season. Contrary
to what people believe, I am a soldier. I played on it all year and I didn’t complain, not once. I waited until the
season was over to get it fixed and now I’m feeling good.”
Report: Former Lions RB Jones visited Patriots
Posted by D.A. Louis  May 14, 2008
Freep.com Reports:
Former Lions running back Kevin Jones visited with the AFC champion New England Patriots last week,
according to the NFL Network. The Patriots, whose only loss last year was in the Super Bowl to the Giants,
have only four running backs on their roster: starter Laurence Maroney, third-down back Kevin Faulk and
backups Sammy Morris and BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

At this time last year, the prevailing thought was that Jones would open the season on the Physically
Unable to Perform list with his foot injury. However, Jones made enough progress that he was not added to
the list and he spent the season on the Lions' roster.

Jones is said to be further along from his knee injury than he was at this time last year from his foot injury.
Williams Adjusting To Being A Starter
Posted by Jay Miles  May 13, 2008
panthers.com Reports:
Running back DeAngelo Williams has found himself in a new role entering his third NFL
season with the Carolina Panthers. At the team's mini-camp this weekend, Williams is now
running the plays with the starting offensive group after two years of playing behind
DeShaun Foster. He must also now play the role of teacher instead of pupil.

During the offseason, the Panthers released Foster and drafted highly-touted running back
Jonathan Stewart from Oregon. Williams went from being the young guy learning the ropes
and finding his way in the League to being the teacher in just a matter of months. He has
responded by paying more attention to the details.

"I know that I have some improvements to make this offseason," Williams said. "I need to
get better at blocking and reading the holes."

On just the second day of mini-camp, Williams' car was parked near the front of the line at
the players' entrance. He had been one of the first to arrive at Bank of America Stadium.

"I am certainly trying to get in here early so that I can put in my time in the film room,"
Williams said. "You have to be able to pick up the different blitzes and disguises that the
defenses are going to run. You are better off if you can start spotting them early on."
Young Not Worried About Receivers
Posted by Jay Miles May 13, 2008
titansonline.com Reports:
The Tennessee Titans have been criticized for not drafting a wide receiver in the first round to help Vince Young.
Asked for his thoughts on that subject, the quarterback said Friday he has enough help.

Now the challenge is for him to improve.

"If I don't pay attention, that's my fault. If I do, with the talent that I have and the chemistry I have and all the guys
and the weapons I have around me, all I have to do is stay focused and work hard and I feel I'll be all right,''
Young said after a minicamp session.
McCown Ready To Compete
Post by Jay Miles  May 13, 2008
miamiherald.com Reports:
''I'm excited about the fact it's an open competition, and so, in my mind, no, I don't think
there's going to be anything that will stop me from becoming the starter here,'' McCown
said Wednesday after spending another day working in Miami's offseason program.

He is working alongside John Beck. Soon, rookie Chad Henne also will be on the job. The
three will engage in what promises to be the team's most scrutinized competition. But from
McCown's perspective, this also will be the team's healthiest competition.

''I hope for the sake of our team and the quarterback position that in John Beck's mind he
believes nothing is going to stop him, and in Chad Henne's mind there's nothing that's going
to stop him from being the starter,'' McCown said. ``When you have guys competing as
hard as we're going to compete, you're going to get the best out of us, and you'll get the
best quarterback possible for this team.''

McCown is no stranger to quarterback competitions. He was the rookie in Arizona when
veteran Jeff Blake was fading. But after disposing of one veteran he was, in turn, replaced
by another veteran when the Cardinals turned to Kurt Warner
Vick ordered to pay bank $2.5 million
Posted by D.A. Louis May 9,2008
ajc.com Reports:
Michael Vick has been ordered to pay more than $2.5 million to the Royal Bank of Canada in a court order filed
Wednesday.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted a motion for summary judgment
against Vick for default and breach of a promisory note from Jan. 18, 2007.
Vick was found in default of $2,421,170.90. He also must pay interest of the rate of $499 per diem from Sept.
19, 2007 from May 7, 2008 — a total of 231 days and a sum of $115,269. The order also states that Vick must
pay the bank's attorneys' fees and costs in the amount of $11,950.97.

Royal Bank of Canada, which operates as RBC Centura in the United States, first sent a letter on Aug. 31, 2007
to Vick demanding repayment of a line of credit that he'd taken in January 2007 for a real estate venture. "Such
proceeds were not to be used primarily for personal, family or household purposes, " according to the loan.
The lawsuit claimed that Vick was in default of the loan for "numerous reasons," including that he failed to
promptly provide a semi-annual personal financial statement and disclosure of his liquid assets as required by
the loan.
Bironas signs one-year deal
Posted by D.A. Louis May 9, 2008
Tennessean Reports:
Titans kicker Rob Bironas has signed a one-year deal with the team worth $1.47 million. The Titans made
Bironas a one-year tender offer in February, but the team remains interested in signing him to a long-term
contract. Bironas was named to the Pro Bowl last season after making 35 of 39 field goal attempts.
Specter remains skeptical

Boston.com Reports:
Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter, who has been a vocal critic of the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell,
called a false start against the league yesterday.
more stories like this

Specter isn't satisfied with the NFL's early stance regarding the eight videotapes that former Patriots employee
Matt Walsh turned over to the league yesterday.

"I think it is very unfortunate that the NFL has already started its 'nothing new' spin before watching the tapes or
finding out what Mr. Matt Walsh has to say," Specter said in a written statement. "Let's see where the evidence
leads."
Ex-Patriots Assistant Sends the N.F.L. Eight Tapes
Posted by D.A. Louis May 8, 2008
New York Times Reports:
A former New England Patriots employee has sent the N.F.L. eight videotapes showing the team recorded play-
calling signals by coaches of five opponents in six games between the 2000 and 2002 seasons, in violation of
league rules. But the group of tapes does not include video of the St. Louis Rams’ walk-through practice the day
before the 2002 Super Bowl. The employee, Matt Walsh, had been linked to such a tape by news media
speculation. Walsh’s tapes show that the Patriots recorded the signals of offensive and defensive coaches in
regular-season games against the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills, the Cleveland Browns and the San Diego
Chargers and against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 American Football Conference championship game.
In that game, the tape has been edited to show Steelers coaches signaling plays, followed by two different
camera angles of the actual plays that were called.

The New York Times obtained a list of the Walsh videotapes. The information was later confirmed by Walsh’s
lawyer, Michael Levy, from the Washington offices of McKee Nelson.

The N.F.L. declined to comment Wednesday night because it did not have the tapes in its possession.
